Château Larcis Ducasse is located at the heart of the A.O.C Saint-Emilion. It is a family winery, with a long history.
It all started in the XVIth century, when Larcis Ducasse's wines gained considerable appreciation and were in great demand.
This was further evidenced in 1777 when Libourne wine merchant Pierre Beylot purchased them for a high price. Subsequently, in 1841, Le Producteur journal by Lecoutre de Beauvais cited Larcis as one of the finest crus from Saint-Emilion. As recognition for its quality and exceptional terroir, Larcis Ducasse was awarded a gold medal at the Paris World Exposition of 1867.
In 2002, the family made the decision to appoint Nicolas Thienpont as the chateau's manager. He was joined by David Suire, an oenologist, and Julien Lavenu from Derenoncourt Consultants, with whom he worked to build upon the progress already achieved and further enhance the quality of the domain's wines.
Recognising the scope of opportunity that surrounded them, they undertook a detailed study of the estate's terroirs, investing heavily in both vineyard renovation and cellar refurbishment. The techniques employed were a combination of traditional approaches and modern methods which enabled them to bring out the very essence of each unique region.
In 2012, a milestone was reached for Chateau Larcis Ducasse. Merely 10 years after the arrival of Nicolas Thienpont and the new team, the estate was promoted to 1er Grand Cru Classé status in the prestigious wine Classification of Saint Emilion.
This recognition of excellence from its peers serves as testament to both the superior quality of their wines, and also a tribute to the remarkable terroir on which they are produced.
